"John Wirtz, the renowned Roncalli baseball coach, passed away. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to see him at the hospital. He was loving and laughing despite his weariness. Coach, may you rest in peace and rejoice in heaven.

Coach Wirtz passed away as a result of complications from a recent illness. His warmth, humor, and affection for everyone around him were evident even in his last hours, which is a testament to the enduring spirit he gave to all he accomplished.

His family, friends, former teammates, coaching colleagues, and the larger Indianapolis community will all miss him terribly. In the days ahead, the family will announce services to celebrate his life and legacy.

Even though Coach Wirtz's whistle is silent, the people you inspired will always hear your voice in their hearts and in the dugouts. I appreciate everything you have done.
