 "Alien: Romulus" takes $41.5 million and soars to the top of box office rankings. The 45-year-old franchise's most recent entry, "Alien: Romulus," debuted at the top of the North American box office. In its first weekend of release, the 20th Century Studios production brought in an estimated $41.5 million from 3,885 theaters across the United States and Canada. 

With $108.2 million in its global debut, "Alien: Romulus" boasted a $66.7 million international debut in 49 markets. The top two spots on the charts were taken by The Walt Disney Co., which owns 20th Century Studios, and Marvel's. In its fourth weekend, 

"Deadpool & Wolverine" is currently in second place with $29 million. The studio is credited with 42% of the summer box office receipts for the industry, which includes the successful films "Inside Out 2" and "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

" For the film industry, August is frequently slow or, less kindly, a dump. Although the movie industry in 2024 has generally lagged behind, a run of recent hits, such as "Deadpool & Wolverine" 

and "It Ends With Us," helped create a momentum that made this late August weekend more than 30% ahead of the same weekend the previous year. It has increased by more than 10% since August 2019.

Though it began rather gloomily, the summer is ending on a really positive note, according to Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian. "We were expecting to coast through August, but instead we're pushing hard to close the month with a much better summer box office total than we had anticipated." 

"Alien: Romulus," which is based around the same time as "Alien" and "Aliens," was directed by Fede Álvarez. She assembled a group of promising twentysomethings, including David Jonsson, Isabela Merced, and Cailee Spaeny, to lead the cast.

 The science fiction movie embraces the horror roots of the franchise and taps into Álvarez's penchant for all things horror—he is well-known for his roles in "Evil Dead" and "Don't Breathe." With an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the reviews are largely positive despite being somewhat mixed.

As space colonists scavenge the deep corners of a deserted space station, they encounter the most terrifying life-form in the universe.

Iowa's DES MOINES The title creature from Ridley Scott's iconic Alien was one of the scariest movie creations for a good portion of my early childhood. Even though I was too young and too much of a fearful cat to have seen the movie, the thing's appearance and design were enough to give me nightmares.

Then came James Cameron's own masterpiece, Aliens, which kept some of the scare factor while moving the plot into the realm of action films inspired by the Rambo era. I was able to watch this sequel before I developed the courage to watch the first one. But when I did, I was shocked to see that anything my imagination could conjure up by just looking at the Alien was insignificant.

Benjamin Wallfisch's score is the best of this dish. Not only does it honor the great score by Jerry Goldsmith for Alien, but it also takes a cue from it, as well as from the scores by James Horner for Aliens and Harry Gregson-Williams for Prometheus.

I can't express how incredible Alien: Romulus is enough, but I also can't discuss it too much for fear of giving anything away. Just make sure your list of things to see is topped with this.
