Eagles vs. Patriots: How to watch tonight's Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots game in the 2024 NFL preseason

Gentlemen An NFL preseason game is not something to get too excited about. But when the Patriots host the Eagles on Thursday night for their second game, perhaps they will put on a slightly more entertaining show. At least by preseason standards, last week's opener was a bit of a bust.

The Panthers ranked in the top thirty-three players. Before the first quarter was halfway through, the Patriots' starters were sidelined. Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett, the quarterbacks, each only received one series.

Rain and a slow game were the norm, and until Joe Milton entered the game in the fourth quarter and flashed his arm and legs, the team had little offensive punch. It's likely that the Eagles will sit most of their.

Playing just six snaps against the Panthers a week ago was the biggest letdown of the season. He caught two of his three passes for 19 yards, but he was out of the game before you could blink, denying the audience a chance to see how he appears in a competitive setting.

Of the six first-round quarterbacks, only Maye and Jayden Daniels of Washington played fewer than 20 snaps in the first preseason game. Daniels, however, will start for his team in Week 1 as opposed to Maye.

Although Mayo has stated that Maye will receive more reps versus the Eagles, that could only equate to seven. Though I can appreciate the Patriots' desire to take their time with Maye, he will only play in two more preseason games before being placed on the bench. He needs them to hone his abilities to manage the game.

Whether he starts or fills in for Brissett against the Eagles, Maye ought to play for nearly half of the game. Milton can also finish the game. The Patriots handled the joint practice like a game, according to Mayo. It didn't go well by that standard, especially considering the offense.

The Eagles' defensive front dominated the offensive line, the Patriots committed eight penalties on that side, threw a few interceptions, failed to execute in the red zone, and failed to protect the quarterback.

According to recent comments made by Brissett, the Patriots need to improve in the areas where they have control, such as false starts, holding penalties, lining up, and clock management. Up until Tuesday, they had done a pretty decent job of that. Let's see if they can get everything ready for Thursday night's operations.

After the release of JuJu Smith-Schuster, there are still a lot of players vying for five or six spots at wide receiver, including seven players and a still-recovering Kendrick Bourne

However, it's packed with a number of unproven or underproductive receivers, none of whom seems to be a lock to be a top pick. Eliot Wolf and Mayo can probably pull five names out of a hat at the moment

The preseason games can be used as a tiebreaker even though the final three weeks of camp are the most important for player evaluations. In addition to observing which receivers rack up the stats, let's see if any of them can demonstrate any flash and big-play ability, the kind of playmaking that will set them apart from the competition and create highlight packages.

Offensive Tackling:

During the last one to two weeks of practice, the Patriots have had a fairly settled starting lineup at left tackle (Vederian Lowe and Calvin Anderson) and right tackle (Chukwuma Okorafor and Caedan Wallace).

However, the tackle play has also been subpar, and there is a rumor that the Patriots are aware that they require additional players. Hopefully, on Thursday, they can manage the Eagles' pass rush more skillfully than they did on Tuesday.

Kickers:

Joey Slye started the competition off strong, making a 42-yard field goal in the game the previous week. Later, during a practice drill, he went 3 for 4 on last-second kicks, making kicks from 38, 45, and 52 yards while missing a 52-yarder.

In that practice drill, Chad Ryland was only 2 for 4 and missed both of his 52-yard attempts, including one that sliced dangerously to the right. He did not attempt a field goal against the Panthers.

The New England Patriots will host the Philadelphia Eagles for an exhibition game at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, August 15, with the 2024 NFL preseason already underway. The Patriots are receiving a lot of attention this season with the hiring of Jerod Mayo as head coach in place of Bill Belichick and the (brief) debut of rookie quarterback Drake Maye in last week's preseason victory over the Carolina Panthers. However, the Eagles, who defeated Baltimore 16–13 in their opening preseason game, are also performing well thus far.
