Real Madrid vs Atalanta bc: Will Kylian Mbappe, the sensational French player, make his Real Madrid debut against Atalanta on Wednesday in the UEFA Super Cup?

With the first trophy of the season on the line, Real Madrid, the Spanish soccer powerhouse, will officially kick off the 2024–2025 season on Wednesday when they play Atalanta, the winners of the Europa League, in the UEFA Super Cup in Warsaw, Poland.

In doing so, head coach Carlo Ancelotti will play up to the first game following the retirement of German midfielder Toni Kroos in the summer, and he may also give attacking additions Kylian Mbappé and Endrick Felipe their debuts.

With a win in Warsaw, Real Madrid would surpass FC Barcelona and AC Milan, who are currently tied with Los Blancos with five trophies apiece, to become the only team in history to have won the UEFA Super Cup six times. Conversely, Atalanta will play in their first-ever tournament final and attempt to win their first-ever trophy.

The signs are good for Real Madrid, who last lost to Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final in 2018. This is the first time since Galatasaray defeated them 2-1 in the final thanks to a game-winning golden goal in 2000.

David Alaba is the only regular member of Real Madrid's first team who is not available for this match. The team is nearly fully fit for the match. Alaba is a few months away from playing again after suffering a serious ACL injury in December that may keep him out until 2025, but Ancelotti has continued his strategy from the previous campaign by keeping him in the squad.

The good news for the Italian coach is that players who were involved in the final stages of the European Championship and Copa América come into contention right away despite not having played a preseason game. Real Madrid has also been impressed by the fitness levels of those returning late to the preseason, such as Mbappé and Jude Bellingham.

Álvaro Rodríguez, a forward, is sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained during preseason, and Joan Martínez, a 16-year-old defender, sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during training late last week.

Ancelotti has chosen not to bring many of the team's young players to Poland, even though they played a big part in the preseason. Players like Mario Martín and Nico Paz are still in Madrid while others are preparing for the upcoming season with Castilla.

Earlier in the preseason, Carlo Ancelotti expressed his opinions to the media, saying, "I think those who won the Champions League should play in the Super Cup final." The only thing is that Nacho and Kroos, two players, are not with us. This implies that Real Madrid will probably only see two changes from that side.

One will be in defense, where Éder Militão will take his place in the center of defense, as he most likely would have done last season had he been fit, after Nacho Fernández left to move to Saudi Arabia.

The loss of Toni Kroos in midfield is the other alteration to the squad from the lineup that defeated Borussia Dortmund in the June Champions League final. But by relieving Carlo Ancelotti of his headache regarding how to fit new addition Kylian Mbappé into the side, that might end up being pretty handy. With Rodrygo Goes likely to move into a central attacking role with Vinícius Júnior and Mbappé on the flanks—it is unclear who will operate on which side—it will allow Jude Bellingham to drop back into the midfield three instead of his more advanced role acting almost as a false nine.

Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, Antonio Rüdiger, Felrand Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, Vinícius Júnior, Kylian Mbappé, and Rodrygo Goes are the expected Real Madrid players against Atalanta.
