There were some intriguing questions about how Lego was going to capture the distinctive shapes and aesthetics of Henry Selick's iconic animated film in block form when the company first announced that it would be transforming a fan-designed Nightmare Before Christmas pitch from its "Lego Ideas" crowdsourcing platform into an official set. Now that we do, the outcome is truly brilliant.
Based on the concept created by Lego enthusiast Simon Scott, Lego today unveiled the first glimpse of the finished Nightmare Before Christmas set. With 2,193 pieces, the set includes three builds that are based on Halloween Town: Jack's house, the Town Hall, and of course, the famous Spiral Hill, which has a perfect moon floating in the background.
Naturally, the set also includes a tonne of brand-new, blocky characters that were inspired by the movie. Six standard minifigures are included, including Santa Claus, Lock, Shock, and Barrel; Jack, who has been given enormous, stilt-like legs to replicate his spindly proportions in the movie. Alongside them are a miniature version of Zero the Dog, modeled after his spectral appearance in the movie, and a two-faced brick-built Mayor. See a ton of photos down below!
At a hefty $200, the Lego Ideas Nightmare Before Christmas set will be available on shelves starting on September 1. We apologize to your wallets ahead of time as that is the same day as the Lego Legend of Zelda set. Perhaps think of it as a combined Halloween and Christmas present to yourself?
There's no better way to kick off the Halloween season than with the release of an exclusive LEGO set that pays homage to a beloved Halloween film. The Danish company declared on Tuesday that "brick form" is the only way that Jack Skellington and other characters from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" will ever be preserved.
According to a press release from The LEGO Group, the set brings the "eerie charm" and "playful details" of the film to life. It will be available next month. "Prepare to be immersed in a ghoulishly delightful world and give the holidays a macabre makeover," is what fans of LEGO should say.
Simon Scott, the designer, was among the thousands who voted in favor of the design becoming a real set. Participating in the LEGO IDEAS program, Scott referred to the set's release as a "honor."
Scott stated in a news release, "I'm a huge fan of LEGO builds and Disney Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas,' so I'm honored to see my creation come to life in physical brick form." "Fans of all ages from all over the world, young and old, are raving about the movie,"
An Unforgettable Christmas LEGO will be accessible in the fall.
On Friday, September 6, both online and in-store, the LEGO set "The Nightmare Before Christmas" will be accessible. The set costs $199.99 at retail.
According to the press release, when the "Nightmare Before Christmas" LEGO set is constructed, it will cross Spiral Hill, Jack Skellington's home, and Halloween Town Hall.
Without a few of the oddball characters from the movie, no LEGO set of "Nightmare Before Christmas" would be complete. On "set," brick-form debuts for Jack Skellington, Sally, Santa Claus, Lock, Shock, Barrel, Zero the dog, and a bifurcated brick-built figure of The Mayor are planned.
A variety of extras are also included, such as the Town Hall lectern where Jack Skellington gave his well-known speech, a walking bathtub, a detailed graveyard, and a lift-off roof that reveals Jack Skellington's Christmas formula.
Arriving on September 6, the new Nightmare Before Christmas set costs $200. Ouch! Although I think the set looks great and the minifigs are all well-made, the cost seems excessive for the contents. I thought Lego should have included another minifig, perhaps Oogie-Boogie, or another scene from the movie. or both. Right now, it seems like a $150 set. It's less expensive than that Zelda one, at least.
Although I'm eager to purchase and assemble this new Lego set because I adore Halloween and the Disney film it's based on, I'll be waiting for a deal to take advantage of this new set when it releases next month.
