Authorities said Wednesday that Violet Coultas, age 6, is on a Turquoise Alert after she was last saw at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport earlier this month.
At 10:01 p.m. on July 12, Violet was seen at the airport with her mother, 48-year-old Sarah Coultas, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS). The Hawaii Police Department requested the alert because it believes Sarah and Violet broke a court order by leaving Hawaii.
Violet is said to have blonde hair, hazel eyes, and a height of 3 feet 10 inches. When last seen, she was dressed in light-colored shorts, white sneakers, a pink jacket, a pink sweater, and a white blouse.
Sarah Coultas has brown hair, hazel eyes, and a height of 5' 11".
The Hawaii Police Department's number for anyone with information is (808) 935-3311. More information about the case's circumstances has not been made public by the authorities.
A Turquoise Alert: What Is It?
In Arizona, Turquoise Alerts are a relatively recent public safety measure. The alert system was developed in response to the tragic death and disappearance of a San Carlos Apache teen, which sparked calls for a system specifically designed for vulnerable missing persons. It was signed into law by Governor Katie Hobbs in May.
When someone under 65 disappears for unknown or questionable reasons, the legislation allows for the issuance of a Turquoise Alert.
The Differences Between It and an Amber Alert
Although the goal of both systems is to assist in finding missing people, Amber Alerts are utilized especially for kidnappings. The requirements do not apply to runaways or custody disputes unless there is a credible threat of imminent danger, such as serious injury or death.
The scope is expanded by Turquoise Alerts to cover additional potentially hazardous circumstances involving missing persons who might not fit the criteria for an Amber Alert.
