 The devastating news of the death of Matt O'Neill, a beloved voice and seasoned broadcaster with more than 25 years of experience, has left Calgary's radio community in shock. Matt, who was well-known on Calgary's JACK FM for his warmth, wit, and distinct personality, was more than simply a morning show presenter; he was a friend to innumerable listeners who started their days with his trademark heart, humor, and wisdom.


Matt's career as a people-connector, both on and off the air, was characterized by his passion. He brought vitality, humor, and genuineness to every broadcast as host of the HockeyXtra Show and a mainstay at Rogers Communications' JackFM (Rock97). Beyond the microphone, he was a leader in his field, a guide to young broadcasters, and a steadfast supporter of client-focused storytelling and community involvement.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I report my longtime radio partner, Matt O'Neill, has passed away," said Eric Francis, his longtime colleague. He made many Calgarians laugh, weep, and think. He was a loving father, a gifted broadcaster, and a wonderful friend.


Matt leaves behind two cherished kids and a city that is incredibly appreciative of the happiness he brought into their lives. We will miss him terribly.
