Early on Saturday morning, D'Anthony Reaves, 44, was shot and killed in downtown Atlanta. He has eight stepchildren and twelve children of his own.
The community and his family are grieving. According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers were called to a shooting in the 200 block of Forsyth Street SW at approximately 5:30 a.m. Reaves had many gunshot wounds, including two to his face and one to his arm, when the police arrived.
He was pronounced deceased at the spot. Despite the Atlanta Police Homicide Unit taking up the case, no suspects have been named in public and no one has been put into custody as of yet. The reason for the shooting remains a mystery.
On Saturday night, once Reaves was identified, his grieving family gathered near the gunshot location for a candlelight vigil. He was described by his loved ones as a free spirit who enjoyed dancing and had a cheerful personality.
"He was full of life," family members said. "His children and family meant the world to him. Now, twenty children must grieve the loss of their father. The horrific murder has increased worries about gun violence in Atlanta, particularly in the downtown area.
