 Nguyen, Anh-Thu, Greenwood, Indiana Death Cause and Obituary: Anh-Thu Nguyen, a 44-year-old flight instructor, Purdue University graduate, and visionary leader, died in a plane crash on July 30 just after takeoff from Greenwood, Indiana. The aviation and academic communities are deeply saddened by his untimely loss. In addition to the hearts of her loved ones, her sudden death has left a hole in the global movement she was spearheading for women in aviation, particularly Asian women breaking down boundaries in STEM and aerospace.



To become the first Vietnamese woman to fly around the world alone, Anh-Thu was embarking on an incredible journey. More than a personal goal, that flight served as a symbolic voyage to encourage young women—especially those from disadvantaged communities—to dream big and seek careers in engineering, science, and aviation. Her bravery, tenacity, and pioneering spirit exemplified her life's mission.


Anh-Thu, a Purdue University alumnus, blended leadership compassion with technical prowess. She was regarded by her pupils and peers as a committed teacher and mentor who was intelligent, patient, and giving of her time and expertise. Her impact extended well beyond the cockpit. She led global outreach campaigns, mentorship programs, and scholarships to break down systemic barriers and elevate different voices in aviation as the founder of Asian Women in Aerospace and Aviation Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Asian women in aerospace.


Anh-Thu is remembered by friends, coworkers, and former pupils as a kind, modest, and ambitious woman. She always focused on empowering people and carried herself with dignity and resolve. She created room for others to succeed, whether she was in a classroom or a flying simulator.


People all throughout the world have expressed their sorrow and respect after hearing of her passing. In addition to her hometown of Greenwood, Indiana, memorial services are being organized at Purdue University and among aviation advocacy organizations, which saw her as a symbol of advancement and transformation. Fellow pilots, engineers, and young women she mentored have all written heartfelt tributes, expressing their sincere appreciation for the difference she made in their lives.


Because she demonstrated that it was possible, Anh-Thu's legacy will endure not only via the nonprofit she established but also through every aspiring engineer and pilot who dares to dream. Her life is a monument to the strength of service, resiliency, and representation, and her work sparked a movement.The world has acquired a timeless emblem of bravery and purpose, even though the skies have lost a talented pilot.
