Authorities announced this week that a terrible catastrophe at Dillon Falls had killed two individuals and left a third person missing. Amanda Lloyd, 40, of Rockwall, Texas, and Lindsay Bashan, 33, of Parkland, Florida, have been confirmed as the victims.
On Saturday afternoon, July 19, 2025, a group of six people floating down the Deschutes River on connected inner tubes caused the disaster. As the group got closer to the perilous drop at Dillon Falls, a notorious section of the river about 10 miles southwest of Bend, Oregon, famed for its 15-foot plunge, strong whitewater rapids, jagged boulders, and submerged debris, they were either unaware of it or unable to respond in time.
Three people escaped the swift-moving current and swam to safety as the group approached the falls. Lindsay Bashan, Amanda Lloyd, and another individual were tragically swept over the waterfall.
Lindsay Bashan's body was found two days later, on Monday, while Amanda Lloyd was declared dead at the spot. According to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, the third victim is still unaccounted for as of Tuesday and is thought to be deceased.
Aerial surveillance, underwater cameras, divers, and particularly trained search dogs have all been used in the extensive and continuous search for the missing person. Jason Carr, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, acknowledged the "emotional and physical toll" that rescue workers had to endure and offered the bereaved families his deepest sympathies. Carr stated, "We are making every effort to provide answers to the loved ones who are still waiting."
As a precaution, the three survivors were taken to a hospital after receiving treatment for minor wounds including scrapes and bruises. To preserve their privacy, their identities have not been made public.
Officials stressed that warning warnings are prominently displayed in the vicinity of Dillon Falls. Before arriving near the falls, the majority of river users get out of the water in an authorized day-use area. Unfortunately, this group was either unable to leave in time or missed the warning.
A well-liked summertime location for paddleboarding, rafting, and tubing is the Deschutes River. But the deadly event serves as a sobering reminder of the river's unspoken threats and how vital water safety is.
The sheriff's office continues to investigate the circumstances of the accident and urges visitors to always respect posted warnings and plan ahead when engaging in recreational water activities.
As the community mourns the loss of Amanda Lloyd and Lindsay Bashan, thoughts and prayers remain with the missing individual's family-and with the survivors, forever impacted by the harrowing experience.
