Obituary and Cause of Death for Whitney Resendiz: In Loving Memory of Whitney Resendiz, who died by murder-suicide in Owasso

The populations of Owasso and Muskogee, Oklahoma, are deeply saddened by the tragic and premature death of Whitney Resendiz, who died at the age of 36 in a murder-suicide on the evening of Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Owasso Police arrived at the house at around nine in the morning after a family member discovered the bodies of two other family members who had resided there. There is no continuing threat to the public, according to the police, and there is no indication that there are any unaccounted-for suspects.

Whitney was a cherished mother, friend, sister, and daughter. She was well-known for her unfailing strength, contagious grin, and kind heart. Whitney made everyone around her laugh, smile, and feel better, whether it was through her work, her friendships, or her love for her family. Her lively presence will always be remembered and sadly lost.

She leaves behind friends, family, and a community that cherished her, as well as her 13-year-old daughter, Ava, whom she was raising alone. We are grateful for the time we had with Whitney and the memories she left us, even though our hearts are heavy with loss.

In the days ahead, information about memorials and services will be released. We kindly request privacy during this difficult time and pray for Whitney's loved ones as they deal with this unfathomable loss.

Laura Mietus, a family friend, has set up a fundraiser to help cover funeral costs and take care of Whitney's kids.

The $5,000 target has been reached as of today, with $2,125 raised. Any small donation is greatly welcomed and will be used to help the family through this extremely trying time. Please visit Laura Mietus's GoFundMe page to make a donation or spread the word about the cause.

I hope Whitney is at peace and that her memory will always encourage us to be kind, loving, and strong.
