Brisbane, Queensland: The tragic death of a Year 9 student over the weekend has left the All Hallows' School community in a state of shock and sadness. On Tuesday, July 22, the esteemed Catholic girls' school in the center of Brisbane abruptly shuttered due to what the school called a "major occurrence."
After informing parents via email at approximately 1:30 p.m., students were dismissed early, and all academic, cultural, and athletic events—including a planned parent-teacher conference—were immediately canceled. Students were observed being picked up by family members outside the school gates at 2:00 p.m.
Principal Catherine O'Kane confirmed the "tragic loss" of one of their kids in an official statement, expressing the school's deep sadness. The family has asked for privacy amid what the principal called a "very sad and painful moment." The student's name is Stella Medeiros Hodge.
O'Kane stated, "I am confident that our community will treat this with the highest consideration and consideration." She also advised parents to use social media with awareness and to address the subject with empathy when talking to their daughters.
Although Queensland Police have not released a comment, it is believed that a mental health crisis may have contributed to the student's death. Officials have stated that they do not comment on specific cases involving mental health.
The decision to close was not made hastily, the school administration stressed, and staff and students will have access to support services in the days ahead. Funeral plans will be made public.
Lucia Ines Medeiros Hodge and Lain Hodge, who both lived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and were native to Rio de Janeiro, were the parents of Stella Medeiros Hodge. Medeiros, Lucia. Hodge teaches singing at the Kenmore location of Our Lady of the Rosary School.
