Mr. Drury left behind a legacy of uncompromising devotion to the Xaverian educational purpose, quiet strength, and unwavering leadership.

Saint Xavier came to be associated with Mr. Drury's name. He held a variety of positions over the course of almost 50 years, including coach, leader, educator, and mentor, but no title ever adequately conveyed the breadth of his impact. Generations of young men were challenged by his demands, inspired by his ethics, and changed by his direction as they developed into manhood. His presence in the corridors of St. X was undeniable, and he had a remarkable ability to evoke both affection and respect.

Mr. Drury, who was well-known for his gentle dominance, possessed the unique ability to captivate 1,400 students' attention with a single glance. Beneath that dominant demeanor, however, lay a man of great compassion, whose heart was firmly planted in each student's care and growth. Every young man who entered St. X had promise, and he generously offered his services to help them reach that potential.

The Theodore James Ryken Award, which recognizes faculty members who best represent the spirit and ideals of the Xaverian mission, was granted to Mr. Drury in 2011. As a testament to his career of work and a testament to the profound affection and respect he received from the school community, he was later declared an honorary alumnus in 2019. The significant influence he had on students, coworkers, and the larger St. X family is only somewhat captured by these accolades.

As a football coach, Mr. Drury inspired discipline, sportsmanship, and collaboration. As an administrator, he upheld high standards with fairness and consistency. Perhaps more significantly, though, he was a man who exemplified what it meant to lead a life filled with humility, purpose, and love to others. He gave his everything to the people and area he loved, day in and day out, year after year, without looking for recognition.

The death of a genuine Xaverian educator is deeply felt by the Saint Xavier community. The principles of religion, service, compassion, and fraternity were all demonstrated throughout Mr. Drury's life. His energy will always reverberate in the classrooms, locker rooms, and lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing him, even though he is no longer physically present on campus.
