Brandon, Miss; Matthew Brian Kidd; Accused in Two Custodial Homicide Cases; Continue Reading

After being sought in relation to two distinct killings in Rankin County and the city of Brandon, authorities have verified that 35-year-old Matthew Brian Kidd is currently in prison.

The Brandon Police Department and the Rankin County Sheriff's Office worked together to arrest Kidd Thursday night at the Rodeway Inn in Brandon. Investigators claim that in order to capture the culprit, agency collaboration was essential.

Kidd is currently facing charges of murder in the deaths of Christian Storey, 33, who was shot and killed Thursday night inside a Brandon home on Gayden Street, and William Earl Morris in Rankin County.

Before police acquired an arrest warrant through Rankin County Court on Thursday, authorities had previously named Kidd as a person of interest in Morris' case, but said there was not enough evidence to charge him.

Joseph French, the chief of police in Brandon, described Storey's death as "a horrible and violent act" and had earlier cautioned the public against approaching Kidd, who was deemed dangerous and armed prior to his arrest.

Both murders' reasons are still being looked into. Authorities at the local, state, and federal levels are still working the cases, and officials said they will provide updates when new information becomes available.
