Brown, Jonique Death and Obituary: Baton Rouge Kills 36-Year-Old Woman Shooting: Continue reading

Jonique Brown, 36, has been named by authorities as the victim of a fatal gunshot that took place in Baton Rouge early on Sunday, August 24.

Officers found Brown with a gunshot wound at the intersection of Plank Road and Calumet Street shortly before 4 a.m., according to the Baton Rouge Police Department. She was declared dead on the spot despite emergency personnel's best attempts.

The incident, according to investigators, was the result of a violent altercation between several people. Several people apparently opened fire during the altercation, and Brown was hit in the confusion. Whether she was an unintentional victim or directly involved is still unknown.

Detectives are still gathering evidence, looking over security footage, and looking for witnesses, therefore no suspects have been named. Anyone with information is asked to call Capital Region Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867, according to the police.

While the community laments another life lost to gun violence, Brown's death has devastated his family and friends.
