Raty, Gary Dann, Portland, Oregon Obituary, Cause of Death: After a valiant struggle with several health issues, Gary Dann Raty of Portland, Oregon, died on August 5, 2025, at the age of 63. Resilience, strength, and a profound love for his family and friends characterized his life. Gary's strong spirit offered inspiration to many around him despite the hardships he faced.
Gary was a man of quiet courage and unwavering character who was born on May 2, 1962. His life was based on compassion, tenacity, and humility. Gary, who had a brilliant mind, a giving heart, and a dry sense of humor, changed many lives with his insight and kindness. He was the type of person who could make someone feel heard with a few polite words or brighten a room with a single glance.
Gary suffered from severe diabetes and an infection in recent years, which ultimately resulted in the amputation of his left leg. He faced every day with elegance and determination in spite of these tremendous obstacles. His loved ones found strength and encouragement in his capacity to keep going forward, both physically and symbolically.
His 63rd birthday celebration, a joyous occasion that served as a reminder to everyone of the love and connection he had cultivated over his life, is one of his most treasured recollections of his latter years. Gary was the center of the festivities, surrounded by his favorite triple chocolate cake, family, and laughing. Like so many previous days, that one was a reflection of the love and support that never wavered, even during his darkest hours.
The memories that people who knew and loved Gary have of him endure. He will be remembered for the various ways he united people, the relationships he fostered, and the dignity with which he tackled the challenges he faced. His presence, which was previously reassuring and constant, will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his loving family, who supported him during his hardships and rejoiced with him for his successes. The ties that characterized Gary's life and the profound effect he had on those closest to him were always brought to light by their love.
To celebrate Gary's life, a private memorial service will be conducted in Portland. The family asks anybody who would like to honor Gary to think about donating in his honor to a limb loss foundation or a local diabetic support group—causes that honor his path and the fortitude with which he faced it.
Rest in peace, Gary Dann Raty, who will always be remembered for his bravery, love, and unwavering spirit.
