Riaz Nandan, Ontario's Brampton Death Cause and Obituary: We regret to inform you of the demise of Riaz Nandan, who lived in Brampton, Ontario. The sudden passing of Riaz, a well-liked friend, leader, and champion, has caused sorrow in the many communities he impacted. Former York Federation of Students (YFS) President Riaz was renowned for his leadership abilities as well as his strong belief in justice, equity, and student empowerment.

Many have been shocked by Riaz's death. The cause of his death has not yet been made public as of this writing. But what is certain is the extent of the loss experienced by his friends, family, coworkers, and the innumerable people whose lives he touched with his compassion and action.

Riaz became a passionate and brave leader while attending York University. In his capacity as YFS President, he honourably represented the student body by promoting equitable policies that took into account the many needs of York's student body, accessible education, mental health services, and anti-racism campaigns. He was on the ground, listening, learning, and advocating for others—often in the face of hardship—so his leadership was not performative.

Riaz was equally dedicated to strengthening communities outside of student politics. His activities demonstrated a strong conviction in the strength of unity and group caring, whether he was planning demonstrations, lending support to grassroots initiatives, or just lending a helpful hand to people in need. He was renowned for his strength, modesty, and sincerity in addition to his accomplishments.

People who knew Riaz well describe him as a young man with a great deal of presence, knowledge, and heart. He possessed a unique talent for making others feel appreciated and heard. He was straightforward but principled, serious about the problems but not afraid to grin or say something kind. His passion and warmth made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

It is devastating to lose someone as young, dedicated, and full of potential as Riaz; it serves as a reminder of how fleeting life is. He leaves behind a legacy of courageous and purposeful living in addition to student leadership. He stood up for other people. He created room for voices that were frequently ignored. And he handled everything with poise.

The family of Riaz has our sincerest sympathies. Although there are no adequate words to express the depth of this loss, may you take solace in the knowledge that he was adored and well regarded, and that his memory will endure in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
