After the victim's death was verified, prosecutors in the downtown Crossville shooting case enhanced their charges.
Crossville resident Eric Brandon Garrison, 42, was charged with second-degree murder on Saturday, according to a statement made by District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway. After the victim, Albert Darrell Sturgill Jr., 62, passed away at a hospital on Saturday afternoon, the charge was raised. At first, Garrison had been charged with attempted second-degree murder.
On Friday, August 22, at approximately 5:45 p.m., a shooting occurred across from the Cumberland County Courthouse, close to North Main Street and Fourth Street. According to investigators, the altercation started in the street and swiftly turned into gunfire.
Numerous onlookers saw the shooting, according to authorities, and some of them recorded cellphone footage, which has since been included in the official case evidence.
While the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Crossville Police Department continue their investigation, Garrison is still being held at the Cumberland County Jail on a $1 million bail.
