A cornerstone of Emerson's personal and professional lives, he was lovingly referred to as "Em." His unwavering support, loving, and constant presence made him a hero to his daughter Vali. In the eyes of his wife Charlotte, he was a devoted husband and father, the firm cornerstone of their family. He was a living example of compassion, strength, and integrity, and his love for his family was apparent in everything he did.

However, Emerson's influence went well beyond his house. As the creator and driving force behind the Proactive Community, he united people who had similar goals for development, well-being, and meaning. He created an environment where people could flourish on both a personal and professional level because he was passionate about assisting others. Through Proactive, he promoted an inclusive, supportive, and respectful culture because he believed in creating something bigger than himself.

Em's leadership was characterized by her kindness, humility, and sincere concern for other people. He had a remarkable talent for making everyone feel heard, noticed, and appreciated. He changed the lives of innumerable people by listening to them or by saying encouraging things. Many of us can recall occasions when his knowledge, humor, or steady presence helped us navigate obstacles, both big and small.

He was the first to encourage people at festive occasions. He stood at the side of those in need when things got tough. Emerson Petri left behind a life dedicated to helping others and a community molded by his example. Even as we grieve his passing, his vision, kindness, and enthusiasm will never cease to motivate us.

As Em would have desired, we will draw strength from one another as we work through this tremendous loss. Details on the celebration of his remarkable life will be released in the days ahead.
