Gary Landyn Jacobs, 17, passed away Thursday morning after being involved in a car accident at Lake Waccamaw. His family is in grief. At 4 a.m., Jacobs' car struck a tree when he was traveling to work. Despite receiving medical attention at the scene from emergency personnel, he passed away from his wounds.
Jacobs was scheduled to work at his family's logging company, which he shared with his father and brother. According to his uncle Josh Simmons, "everybody who knew Landyn believed he was destined to be heading a crew in the logging woods."
In addition to his commitment to work, Jacobs was getting ready for his senior year of college and his last baseball season. He just won the MVP award at an Eastern tournament and was an outstanding second baseman. He was "vibrant, a go-getter, and a jokester on the baseball field who gave delight to everyone," according to Simmons.
Jacobs' favorite off-field activity that most reflected his spirit of adventure was riding four-wheelers through ponds equipped with snorkels with pals.
In this painful time, friends and family are relying on one another for support. Simmons said, "We are all about family, and if one of us is in pain, then we all feel it," emphasizing the tight-knit community supporting Jacobs' parents and family.
In honor of Gary Landyn Jacobs, a young man whose radiant energy impacted everyone who met him, a candlelight vigil is planned for Saturday night.
