 Obituary and Cause of Death for Billy McKellar, Tyler, Texas: We regret to inform you of the demise of Billy McKellar, a lifetime Tyler, Texas native, who died quietly at home on July 28, 2025, at the age of 72. Billy's death signifies the conclusion of a life well lived, one characterized by honesty, silent fortitude, and a strong dedication to community, family, and religion.

Billy, the youngest of the McKellar family's three children, was born in Tyler on February 18, 1953. He graduated from John Tyler High School in 1971, when he fell in love with football and mechanics. Billy joined the U.S. Army after high school and served with distinction for four years, including one tour abroad.

After he got back home, Billy worked as an auto mechanic. In 1982, he launched his own shop, McKellar Auto & Repair, and became well-known across Smith County as a reliable technician. Billy's shop was a local institution and a location where neighbors made friends for more than thirty years. Generations of clients have remained loyal to him because of his integrity and commitment.

Billy was not merely a proficient craftsman. He was a devoted father, grandpa, and spouse. In 1977, he wed Linda Davis, his high school sweetheart, and the two of them had two kids, Jennifer and Kyle. Billy liked spending time with his family, whether it was grilling in the backyard for friends and family, going to football games on Friday nights, or fishing at Lake Palestine.

Billy was active in the community outside of his business. He assisted in the food pantry and was an usher at Tyler's First Baptist Church, where he was an enthusiastic member. Through a nearby vocational program, he also served as a mentor to young men, teaching them useful skills and helping them discover their purpose.

Complications from heart illness, which Billy had been battling in private for the past few years, were the cause of his death. He maintained his optimism and involvement in spite of persistent health issues, frequently prioritizing the needs of others over his own. His persevering nature was demonstrated by his fortitude and humility during his illness.

Billy is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda McKellar; his son, Kyle McKellar (Rachel); his daughter, Jennifer Palmer (Michael); and five grandchildren, all of whom were a great source of pride and happiness for him.
