Cause of Death and Obituary for Cara Jackson Pena, Georgia: At the age of 39, Cara Jackson Pena, a cherished daughter, mother, friend, and neighbor, tragically went away, leaving the Georgia community in sadness. As friends and family come together to honor the life of a lady who gave so much of herself to those around her, her departure has left a profound hole in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Cara was born in 1986 in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in a close-knit household where faith, education, and compassion were valued in every aspect of daily life. Cara showed a calm strength, a strong sense of justice, and a loving nature from an early age. She carried these traits into adulthood, which helped to mold her into the extraordinary woman she is today.
Cara served vulnerable populations across the state for the most of her career after earning a social work degree from Georgia State University. Cara put her all into whatever task she took on, whether it was helping families in trouble or dealing with kids in the foster care system. Her warmth and empathy in every room, in addition to her professionalism and expertise, are what her coworkers remember about her.
Cara was loyal to her family while she was not working. Her spouse, Miguel Pena, and their two small children, Mateo and Ava, survive her. She frequently expressed that being a mother—leading her kids with compassion, faith, and an inquisitive spirit about the world—was the source of her greatest happiness. Cara frequently offered her time and always found a way to connect people at church events, school functions, and neighborhood festivals.
Even though she passed away unexpectedly, the love she offered still has an impact on others. The family requests privacy and understanding as they work through this trying time, and they have decided not to publicly reveal the cause of her death at this time. One of the many ways they intend to keep Cara's spirit alive in the world is by supporting young women who want to participate in social work through a memorial fund they established in her honor.
People who knew Cara talk of her poise, her calm leadership, and her faith in people's goodness. She provided a sympathetic ear, a considerate gesture, or just the consolation of her presence when it was most needed. Her absence will be deeply missed, as her humility and altruism were uncommon.
This Sunday, St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Decatur, Georgia, will host a memorial service honoring Cara's life. Following the service, there will be a candlelight vigil in the community park where she frequently took her kids. Everyone is welcome to join and help celebrate a life that had a profound impact.
Even though Cara Jackson Pena is no longer with us, her legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the lives of those she touched.
