Olivia was a member of the family, not just a friend. By bond, not by blood. Her personality was contagious; she was nice, cheerful, and vivacious. She possessed the unique capacity to make people feel important and seen without even attempting on her part. Olivia made you feel at home, regardless of how long you had known her or how recently you had met her. She was reassuring. Did she laugh? 

The idea that someone so lively, full of life, and kind-hearted did not receive the time she deserved hurts. She did, however, leave behind something uncommon: effect. Olivia had an impact on people's lives. She encouraged others. Her allegiance was unflinching, her kindness effortless, and her joy abundant. She is no longer in the same place in the world, and for many of us, things will never be the same.

Please know that you are not alone in your grief, as I know there are a lot of people that adored her. Olivia's memory will endure in the stories we tell, the memories we cherish, and the ways she improved us simply by being herself. Her reach was broad, and her love was sincere.

Having to say goodbye hurts. And perhaps we do not need to. Perhaps this is simply a "see you later." Because a soul such as Olivia's never dies. It remains with us—in the joy and love lessons she taught us, in the laughter she gave, and in each moment we decide to live a little better because of her.
