On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Andrew "Drew" Peter James Chalmers, 38, of South Philadelphia, unexpectedly died at home. As they remember a man whose vitality, generosity, and zest for life affected everyone he encountered, his family, friends, and community are devastated by his departure.
Doug and Susan Chalmers of Lewes, Delaware, and Ursel Chalmers of Panama City, Florida, are Drew's parents. He attended Neshaminy High School in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, where he was raised. After high school, he continued his studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he developed his friendships and passions, and George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Drew, a lifetime Philadelphia sports fan, personified the city's essence. His passion for soccer was particularly noteworthy, and he had a strong devotion to the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Union. In addition to being a gifted player, Drew was a fervent fan of international soccer and followed the Bundesliga and Premier League with great fervor. His passion for the game brought him friends both close and far away, and he was especially devoted to SV Werder Bremen.
Professionally, Drew established a fulfilling career in the hospitality sector in Philadelphia. He became well-known at many cherished locations throughout the city thanks to his charm, quick smile, and passion of interacting with people. He enjoyed working at Lincoln Financial Field and Citizens Bank Park because it allowed him to combine his love of hospitality and sports. He most recently brought that same warmth and enthusiasm to Libertee Grounds, where both coworkers and customers appreciated his professionalism and positive outlook.
Beyond his career, Drew had a lively personality. He frequently celebrated his Scottish and German ancestry with family and friends since he was so proud of them. According to those who knew him best, he was amiable, charming, and incredibly devoted. He treated his friends like brothers and loved his family dearly. His blood brothers Ryan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Laba, and Casey Mitchell were among his chosen family members; they, along with innumerable others, now lament his passing.
His parents, brothers John Para of Pittston, PA, and Michael Para of Croydon, PA, sisters Elaine (Greg) Ford of Warrington, PA, and Carly (Randall) Pinato of Middletown, DE, and nieces Ava and Nora Merschbach are all living. Along with his extensive network of acquaintances in Philadelphia and beyond, Drew is also remembered by his aunts, uncles, and cousins in Scotland and Turkey. His cherished pets, his cat Garth and his dog William Wallace, will also miss him.
The Stolfo Funeral Home on South Broad Street in Philadelphia will handle the funeral preparations.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania, whose purpose mirrors the kind of giving spirit that Drew represented throughout his life, is the organization to which the family requests donations in place of flowers.
The tales, giggles, and affection Drew shared will endure. Every space was made happier by his presence, and the innumerable lives he impacted will carry on his legacy.
