 Canada's Shelley Thornton, Red Deer Accident, Cause of Death: We offer our sincere sympathies to the family, friends, coworkers, and all CUPE 417 members on the unfortunate and premature death of Shelley Thornton, the beloved Secretary Treasurer, who died on August 12th in an accident that seemed inexplicable.

Shelley was a voice of compassion, justice, and courage, and she was more than just a union leader. She was a pillar of CUPE 417 and a well-respected member of the larger labor community because of her unwavering devotion to workers' rights, fight for equity, and CUPE 417. That someone so vital and purposeful could be taken so abruptly is inexplicable. We pay tribute to her during this difficult time, not just for her accomplishments but also for her character as a devoted leader, a kind friend, and an indispensable part of our community.
