Following a seven-year fight with cancer, Kim Sellers, 56, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 11:47 a.m., leaving the town of Wakarusa, Indiana, in sadness.
Resilience, faith, and love characterized Kim's life, and her impact went well beyond her family to include classrooms, sports stadiums, and lifelong friendships.
Robert and Sue (Welch) Hickman welcomed Kim into the world on January 10, 1969, in Bremen, Indiana. She showed the grit, will, and vigor that would later define her at a young age.
Kim, a 1987 alumnus of Bremen High School, was inducted into the Bremen High School Athletic Hall of Fame for her outstanding performance in volleyball, basketball, and tennis. Many young athletes looked up to her because of her innate leadership skills and dedication to her squad.
She maintained the same motivation throughout her time in college at Huntington University, where she competed in three sports—tennis, basketball, and softball—and graduated with a Bachelor of Education in 1991.
Her athletic legacy was solidified during her tenure as a Forester, and she was later inducted into the Huntington University Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of her efforts. Later, she went on to pursue her love of study by graduating from Olivet Nazarene University with a Master's in Education.
Kim married her true love, Norm Sellers, in Bremen on August 13, 1994. First in Bremen and then in Wakarusa, where they reared their three children, they created a lovely life together.
Being a mother brought Kim the most happiness. She gave her all to help Trent, Chad, and Kyle with their personal, academic, and athletic endeavors. Kim was their greatest admirer and source of unwavering affection, whether she was supporting them from the sidelines, organizing family vacations, or just spending peaceful evenings with them.
Kim had a similarly impressive career. She devoted her life to teaching fourth grade at Bremen Public Schools, where her kind disposition, tolerance, and excitement had a lasting impression on innumerable pupils.
According to her colleagues, she not only imparted knowledge but also encouraged curiosity, kindness, and self-assurance in each child she worked with. Beyond her athletic and professional accomplishments, Kim cherished the small pleasures in life.
Her happy spot was the beach, a haven where she could find tranquility and cherish times spent with her loved ones. She also treasured Christmas break ski excursions to Northern Michigan, which forged closer ties within her family.
In addition to enjoying shopping, both online and off, Kim also enjoyed taking pottery and art lessons, which allowed her to express her creativity and make mementos that her loved ones would cherish. Wrigley and River, her cherished dogs, were her regular companions at home, providing her with solace and happiness.
Kim is survived by her loving husband of thirty-one years, Norm Sellers; her brother, Dr. Kevin (Heidi) Hickman of Bremen; her three nephews, Dawson, Camden, and Maddux Hickman; and her three sons, Trent (Alexis Houk) Sellers of Wakarusa, Chad (Kylie) Sellers of Carmel, IN, and Kyle Sellers of Wakarusa. Her parents, Robert and Sue Hickman, passed away before her.
The Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel (Door H) will be open for visits from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and the Worship Center (Door A) will be open for visits from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
Pastor Mike Raasch of Living Gospel Church will preside over the funeral ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Bremen Cemetery will be the last resting place for Kim.
Kim Sellers will be known for her resilience, generosity, humor, and steadfast devotion to her family. Her children, her pupils, and everyone who had the good fortune to know her will carry on her legacy.
