Shooting Sparks Standoff in the Neighborhood of North Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ: After a shooting inside a house left one guy critically hurt, a heated standoff broke out in a neighborhood in north Phoenix on Friday afternoon.
According to Phoenix police, when authorities arrived at the intersection of 31st Avenue and Aster Drive, just north of Cactus Road, they found a male inside the house with gunshot wounds. The victim had severe but unidentified injuries and was sent to a neighboring hospital.
The suspect is still confined within the house, according to authorities. On the scene, crisis negotiators are working to convince the person to give up peacefully. Law enforcement has closed off nearby roads in the interim and advised locals to stay away from the area.
What caused the shooting and the connection between the perpetrator and the victim are yet unknown. While tactical units continue to keep a tight eye on the situation, detectives have started their probe.
Police urged community members to exercise patience while they attempt to safely end the standoff, stressing that resident safety is their first priority.
