On Saturday morning, two people lost their lives when they fell from the Western Distributor flyover onto Harbour Street in Sydney's central business district.
Prior to the arrival of emergency personnel at approximately 9:45 a.m., police confirmed that the victims—a man and a woman thought to be in their 40s—were declared dead at the scene.
Authorities concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths after conducting investigations. For the coroner, a report will be written.
Due to the event, the Sydney Harbour Bridge's southbound lanes were blocked, and traffic was rerouted to the Anzac Bridge, causing significant traffic disruptions. Although there was still a lot of traffic at Millers Point, roads were reopened around 1 p.m. Drivers were advised by the Transport Management Centre to extend their journey time until the situation improved.
As detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding the death, the Sydney City Police Area Command set up a crime scene. Police have made a witness appeal, requesting that anyone with information or local dashcam or mobile footage call Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or Day Street Police Station.
Anyone impacted can get support services from Beyondblue at 1800 512 348, Kids Helpline at 1800 55 1800, and Lifeline at 13 11 14.
