Tyler Marie Thomas, Missing, Found Dead, Peru, Nebraska

Thomas, Tyler Marie, Peru, Nebraska Found Dead, Missing: Tyler “Ty” Marie Thomas, a 19-year-old freshman at Peru State College in Nebraska who was intelligent and driven, disappeared on the cold night of December 3, 2010. After attending an off-campus party, Tyler vanished just a short walk from the security of her dorm room—a little walk that became a nightmare for her family, friends, and community for ten years.

Her last known movements were captured on security tape at around 1:30 a.m., when she was walking by herself in the chilly darkness. She texted a pal the eerie text message, "I do not know where I am," only minutes before she vanished. Nobody heard from her again after that.

Days later, focus shifted to Joshua Keadle, a 29-year-old classmate with a complex web of contradictory tales and a troubled past. Keadle eventually told authorities that he had picked Tyler up that evening and driven her to a boat dock on the Missouri River, claiming they had "consensual" intercourse, despite his repeated denials. Physical evidence revealed a more disturbing scenario than his allegation that she walked away after that. Tyler was never seen again, but investigators found tire marks, drag trails, and evidence of a struggle close to the dock.

Her body has never been located, even after thorough searches of the river and its environs. Her family filed a civil lawsuit against Keadle after she was formally pronounced dead in 2013. They were given a symbolic $2.64 billion in damages, a decision that highlighted the magnitude of their loss and was a potent act of justice and defiance.

Ten years later, criminal justice was served. Following years of suffering, doubt, and tenacity, Joshua Keadle was found guilty of second-degree murder in 2020 and given a sentence ranging from 71 years to life. For Tyler's family, who had battled valiantly to preserve her legacy and apprehend her killer, it was a bittersweet win.

Tyler was more than just a headline; she was a friend, a student, a daughter, and a promising young lady. She was well-known for her bright smile, her fortitude, and her aspirations for a future centered on learning and serving others. For everyone who knew her, her absence has created a lasting hole in their lives.

Legally speaking, justice has been done, but Tyler's journey is far from ended. Even though her body has not been found yet, her family is still holding out hope that the truth will eventually surface.

One thing has not altered over the years: Tyler Marie Thomas will always be remembered. Her memory endures in her loved ones' hearts, in the search for the truth, and in the struggle to make sure that what happened to her is never
