Car Accident involving Abdiqadir Ahmed Nur: Abdiqadir Ahmed Nur Found Dead in Rockbridge County I-81 Collisions

At around 5:08 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, a significant multi-vehicle collision happened on northbound Interstate 81 close to mile marker 181, and Virginia State Police are looking into the incident.

Six tractor-trailers, two passenger cars, and a medical transport van were all involved in the collision. No patient was on the truck at the time, according to authorities. Troopers reported one fatality and several non-life-threatening injuries. The deceased has been identified as Shakopee, Minnesota resident Abdiqadir Ahmed Nur, 36. When Nur's car struck multiple tractor-trailers in a chain-reaction pileup, the seatbelt-wearing driver passed away on the spot.

According to investigators, the collision happened while traffic stalled for a previous two-vehicle collision during a period of intense rain. The ensuing chain-reaction collision caused serious inconvenience by blocking the route.

After a helicopter transfer was postponed owing to bad weather, the driver of the medical transport vehicle suffered severe injuries and was taken to Rockbridge Community Hospital by ground.

VDOT established delays to Route 11 as hazardous materials experts cleaned up fuel leaks and debris. By 1:00 a.m. on Friday, both northbound lanes were operational again.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are being looked at by the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team. In bad weather, authorities continue to advise drivers to use caution.
