Hunter Davis, 27, of Henrico, died Tuesday night in a fatal accident on Interstate 295 in Hanover, Virginia.
Around 6:30 p.m., troopers were called to a single-vehicle collision in the southbound lanes close to Exit 38 at Pole Green Road, according to the Virginia State Police (VSP). Davis was operating a 2011 white Ford F-250 when it went off the road, crashed with another vehicle, and caught fire, according to officials. Authorities verified that before the collision, an unidentified attacker had fired upon the car.
At the scene, emergency personnel declared Davis deceased. While detectives worked the site, traffic was rerouted at Exit 41 for Route 301. The road was closed for many hours before reopening Wednesday at 4:30 a.m.
