Elario Steven Fort Lauderdale, Florida Death Cause and Obituary: Loved ones mourn the death of Florida Panthers fan "Ric Flair": Continue Reading

Steve Elario, a devoted super fan who was recognized for his zeal and contagious enthusiasm, is one of the Florida Panthers' most cherished supporters. Elario, who lives in Fort Lauderdale and works as a yacht broker, won over both players and fans by becoming a beloved presence at Panthers games in Sunrise.

Elario, who was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, relocated to Florida in 1979 and immediately accepted his new job as a devoted Panthers fan. He became a popular favorite due to his unique appearance, which resembled that of professional wrestler Ric Flair. A unique custom at Florida games resulted from this resemblance: anytime the team scored, Elario was shown on the center scoreboard, frequently accompanied with Flair's trademark "Whoo!" that would reverberate around the arena and cause the audience to roar.

This custom started years ago when a member of the game presentation team observed how much Elario resembled Flair during one of the team's "Looks Like" segments. Every Panthers score was celebrated with Elario's picture and Flair's famous yell from that point on, forging a strong connection between the team and its ardent supporter.

Elario was there for some of the most famous events in Panthers history, demonstrating his passion even outside of the stands. After the club defeated the Edmonton Oilers in the Finals, he skated during the celebration of their Stanley Cup victory. He also joined in the joyous celebrations of the team's biggest victory on the beach in Fort Lauderdale.

Although Elario's cause of death and specifics on future services have not been made public, his legacy as a devoted follower and cherished community member endures. The Panthers organization, players, and supporters, who valued his steadfast devotion and contagious energy, will miss his passion and spirit very much.

The Panthers honored Elario's memory as a genuine example of team spirit and sent their deepest sympathies to his family and friends. The significant influence a devoted fan can have on a team and community is brought home by his story.
