Griffin, Tommy Leesburg, Florida Obituary, Cause of Death: Tommy Griffin, a man killed in a boating accident in Lake Harris

Tommy Griffin of Leesburg has been recognized by authorities as the man who perished in a watercraft accident on Lake Harris on Friday.

After a day-long search by several organizations, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) verified that Griffin was found dead.

When a caller reported seeing an unattended jon boat on the lake at around nine in the morning on Friday, the inquiry got underway. A coordinated search was conducted by FWC and Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) officers in the vicinity of Singletary Park on South 14th Street.

According to FWC Officer Chad Weber, Griffin's body was found by LCSO's helicopter Eagle One at 7:30 p.m. following hours of air, sea, and ground searches.

Although the reason of the tragedy is still unknown, preliminary investigations indicate that Griffin had taken the jon boat out on Thursday evening. As the inquiry progresses, the Medical Examiner's Office will ascertain the official cause of death.

The incident's circumstances are being jointly reviewed by LCSO and FWC.
