Obituary and Cause of Death for Luke Gehlhausen, Dubois County, Indiana

Luke Gehlhausen, Indiana's Dubois County Death Cause and Obituary: We share the terrible death of one of our own with heavy hearts and deep grief. On the evening of September 7th, Luke Gehlhausen, 41, a devoted and well-respected 17-year veteran of the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department, died while on duty while responding to an emergency call.

Luke was traveling in his own car to the location of a reported structure fire at around 7:15 PM when he was tragically killed in a single-vehicle collision. Luke reacted as he always did, displaying the bravery, haste, and selflessness that characterized his character and his service.

In addition to being a firefighter, Luke was also a spouse, father, brother, son, and friend to many. A cornerstone of the Celestine community, he was renowned for his unrelenting dedication to service, friendliness, and strong work ethic. He dedicated 17 years of his life to safeguarding and assisting individuals in his vicinity, always putting the needs of others before his own.

We kindly ask that you remember and pray for Luke's wife, kids, parents, sister, and entire extended family during this time of great sorrow. The days ahead will be challenging, and their loss is incalculable. May they find solace in the recollections of a man who lived with honor and purpose, and strength in the love and support of their community.

We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the Deaconess Memorial Hospital EMS Service, the Dubois County Sheriff's Department, the Indiana State Police, and the Uebelhor and Sons Wrecker Service for their response and support during this unfortunate incident. We sincerely appreciate your service and kindness during this catastrophe.

In addition to his years of service, Luke's legacy will endure because of the lives he changed, the friendships he made, and the love he had for his family and community. Serving and defending others was what he liked to do, and he died doing it. And we shall always be thankful for that.

As soon as service information are available, they will be communicated. Meanwhile, Luke Gehlhausen is remembered as a hero, a servant, and a man whose life exemplified the highest ideals of service. We have the watch from here, brother. Rest in peace.
