Police in Fountain found two people dead inside a house Thursday morning, sparking a terrible occurrence that has left the neighborhood in mourning.
Around 11:06 a.m., the Fountain Police Department (FPD) received a complaint about a disturbance in the 1500 block of Bonita Drive. The deaths of a 32-year-old woman and her ex-husband were discovered by cops upon arrival; the crime is currently being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Amanda Julia "AJ" Carter, a cherished mother of three, was identified by the authorities as the victim. Investigators said that before he turned the pistol on himself, her ex-husband, who was also the father of her children, shot and killed her.
According to reports, Carter's three children, Aspen, Hudson, and Kora, who are ages three, seven months, and thirteen, were inside the house when the shooting took place. Later, family members were given custody of them.
Brigitte Juroska, her grandmother, acknowledged that the kids were present during the catastrophe and conveyed her serious worries about their future.
Her children were 13 years old, 7 months old, and 3 years old. Now, who will look after those unfortunate children? "Juroska said."
She further disclosed that the suspect, who was residing at the house under investigation, had previously caused the family to experience mistreatment.
About two months ago, neighbors claimed to have seen a significant police presence at the same residence, which may indicate ongoing domestic problems. Many people in the Colorado Springs and Fountain communities are coming together to support the surviving children and their extended family in the wake of the murder.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 24, 1992, Amanda Carter passed away on September 25, 2025. Her life was sadly cut short, but her family and friends remembered her as a loving mother and loyal friend.
With assistance from the El Paso County Coroner's Office, the Fountain Police Department has stated that the investigation is still ongoing. The suspect's name has not yet been made public by authorities.
It is recommended that anyone with additional information get in touch with FPD or local domestic violence support agencies.
