Following the discovery of a woman's body packed inside a duffel bag on Harney Avenue on Sunday afternoon, St. Louis police are looking into the unsettling finding. The victim has been named by authorities as Union, Missouri resident Paige Kleinheider, 35.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m., neighbors noticed what they described as a "strange gray bag" sitting next to a tote, prompting officers to be summoned to the 5900 block of Harney Avenue. Local neighbors' families shared the discovery on social media, even including videos of the police officers securing the area and inspecting the bag.
Residents of North St. Louis are shaken and demanding answers after the discovery of human remains for the second time in less than a week. As crime scene tape encircled the street for hours while authorities gathered evidence, neighbors expressed annoyance and dread.
The investigation is being led by detectives from the Homicide Division of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. To ascertain Kleinheider's precise cause of death, which police have not yet disclosed, an autopsy is still being conducted. Whether there are now any suspects or persons of interest has not been confirmed by authorities.
Investigators are treating Kleinheider's death as suspicious and are asking anyone with knowledge to come forward. Residents are being asked by police to review doorbell or security camera footage that may reveal odd activity in the vicinity around the time of discovery.
As worries about violent crime in the area escalate, local residents are demanding more patrols and safety precautions.
To help with the investigation, anyone with information is urged to get in touch with CrimeStoppers or the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
