Police Respond to Active Shooter and Firearm Threat at Worlds of Fun; Park Closed

 When police responded quickly and heavily to allegations of someone apparently carrying a pistol, a chaotic scene broke out at the Worlds of Fun amusement park on Saturday night.


Customers and staff were told to leave the park as Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers hurried in with their firearms drawn, according to witnesses.


Although there were no confirmed injuries, early reports indicated that shots might have been fired. The park stated that it would be shutting for the evening and asked parents to pick up their kids.


Police Report

KCPD clarified in an official update at 10:50 p.m. that no shots had been fired. The source of the sound that sent off the alarm is currently being looked into by officers.

According to authorities, they also broke up a fight between multiple youths during the reaction, which might have added to the confusion.

No injuries have been confirmed.


As of the police update, there is no indication of gunshots or an active shooter.

Visitors safely departed as the park closed early.

The reason of the disturbance is being investigated.
