Rachel Johnson Wichita Obituary, Reason for Passing: Wichita Authorities Look into Murder of Absent Wichita Woman

Wichita authorities are looking into a murder case following the discovery of a deceased woman in a vehicle at a south Wichita residence. The deceased has been recognized as 43-year-old Rachel Johnson from Wichita.

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, around 5:17 p.m., law enforcement received a report regarding a missing individual under suspicious circumstances. Homicide detectives were assigned to the case later that night due to its serious nature.

Family members last saw Johnson on the morning of September 26 around 9:30 a.m., as she was driving her black 2014 Ford Fusion.

On Sunday, September 28, investigators were directed to a home situated in the 1800 block of South Longford Circle. At the location, officers discovered Johnson’s vehicle and found her deceased inside it. Upon entering the residence, they encountered a 39-year-old man in the basement, who had died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities report that initial evidence indicates a prior domestic relationship between Johnson and the man.

The inquiry is still active and ongoing.

As we near October—Domestic Violence Awareness Month—we are reminded that domestic violence still affects countless individuals, frequently in silence and behind closed doors.
