Rose Butzgy Westbrook CT Accident, Cause of Death: Loved Ones Mourn: An Oakdale woman lost her life in a collision outside Troop F Barracks on Interstate 95. Continue Reading
On Friday morning, a car and tractor-trailer collided on Interstate 95 South, close to Exit 65 in Westbrook, just in front of the Connecticut State Police Troop F barracks, killing a 22-year-old Oakdale woman.
Isabella Rose Butzgy was recognized as the victim by state police. Investigators say Butzgy rear-ended another car at roughly 9:30 a.m. when she was traveling south. At the scene, she was declared deceased. The other car's driver was treated at a nearby hospital after suffering minor injuries.
This collision was one of several that caused traffic on I-95 to stall for a large portion of the day. Another fatality was caused by a major chain-reaction incident involving five vehicles earlier that morning, which involved a flatbed tractor-trailer transporting plywood.
Nicholas John Kupec, 39, of Waterford, was killed in the collision, which occurred close to the same location on I-95 North. Interstate 95 North between exits 64 and 65 and I-95 South between exits 66 and 64 were closed for about eight hours due to the severity and close proximity of both collisions.
In addition, structural damage forced the closure of the Horse Hill Road (Route 145) overpass between Pequot Park Road and Old Clinton Road. Both collisions are still being looked at by Connecticut State Police. We encourage anyone who saw either incident to call Troop F at 860-399-2100.
