Officials reported that 19-year-old Shane Roberts McVey, who was riding as a passenger in a Toyota 4Runner, lost his life due to injuries from a crash with an 18-wheeler on Friday evening.

The incident took place around 5:00 p.m. Friday on White Horse Road (Highway 25), close to its junction with SC 123, an area often bustling with traffic. As stated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the Toyota 4Runner, which had five people aboard, was traveling north on White Horse Road when the driver tried to turn west onto SC 123. Concurrently, a tractor-trailer moving south on White Horse Road collided with the SUV, leading to a serious impact.

The aftermath of the incident required authorities to divert traffic on White Horse Road for several hours, resulting in considerable delays as troopers examined the crash and crews worked to remove the wreckage from the road.

Among those hurt was Shane Roberts McVey, who was transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical intervention, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office later confirmed that McVey died from his injuries the next day, Saturday at 12:33 p.m. His death was attributed to multiple blunt force injuries, with the incident classified as accidental.
