Authorities have verified the unfortunate passing of 55-year-old Willie F. Martin from Sylacauga following an ATV accident that took place in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.
The accident happened around 2:00 a.m. on Oakland Road, roughly two miles to the west of Sycamore. As reported by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division, Martin was driving a 2020 Yamaha YFZ450 ATV when he hit a deer that was on the road.
Following the collision with the deer, the ATV went off the path and flipped over. Martin was thrown from the machine and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was declared dead at the scene.
Trooper Jaylon James from ALEA confirmed that no other vehicles were part of the incident. The event is still being investigated as officials continue to look into the details around the crash.
Authorities advise ATV operators and drivers to be vigilant, especially in the early morning and evening hours, when animals may suddenly appear on roadways.
