A gay couple is presumed to have committed suicide at Montréal's MR250 Bar Lounge.
The police in Montréal are investigating a tragic murder-suicide that occurred late Friday night in a well-known Plateau-Mont-Royal pub and claimed the lives of two men. The victims' romantic relationship was confirmed by the authorities.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reports that after many 911 calls at around 23 hours indicating that there were fires within the establishment, the agents were called to the MR250 Bar Lounge, which is located on the Avenue du Mont-Royal, close to the Avenue Laval.
When they arrived, the police noticed that several of the clients were panicking. Inside, they found two men who had already been defeated by balle.
Véronique Dubuc, the SPVM's parole officer, confirmed on Saturday that investigators had concluded that there had been a murder followed by a suicide.
"The investigators were able to determine that it was a homicide followed by a suicide," Dubuc said. "The theme underlying this drama has not yet been identified."
The victim, a man in quarantine, and the suspect, a man in quarantine, were confirmed to be in a relationship by the police. The investigators are trying to figure out what led to this deadly altercation inside the pub.
Authorities have clarified that there is no connection between the incident and organized crime.
Following the tragedy, the MR250 Bar Lounge, a well-known spot in Montréal's LGBTQ+ nightlife, expressed its profound sadness. The establishment expressed their condolences in a statement posted on its Facebook page:
A large security perimeter was set up during the night as the area and the CCTV camera recordings were analyzed by the SPVM's senior criminal investigators and crime scene technicians.
Witnesses who were there when the feuds occurred were questioned by police on Saturday. The identity of the two guys have not yet been disclosed to the families.
In response to the news, locals and LGBTQ+ community members in Montréal have voiced their sorrow and grief, with many emphasizing the importance of support in interpersonal relationships and mental health.
The authorities are still investigating and trying to piece together the events that led up to this catastrophe.
