A man was hurt in the fatal shooting at the Rock Hill Galleria mall in South Carolina.

 After a gunshot at the Rock Hill Galleria Mall on Friday, which prompted a rapid police response and a short lockdown of the area, a man is in critical condition.

Officers were sent to the mall following reports of gunfire inside the shopping complex, according to the Rock Hill Police Department (RHPD). When police arrived, they found one man victim who had been shot. He is still in critical condition after being taken to a local hospital.

There is no continuing threat to the public, and authorities have confirmed that the accused shooter is in custody. Citing the ongoing investigation, police did not immediately reveal the victim's or suspect's identity.

"A gunshot at the Galleria Mall is being looked into by the Rock Hill Police Department. In a formal statement, the agency said, "The shooter is in custody and there is no threat to the public." "While the inquiry is underway, there will be a greater police presence apparent."

As investigators and forensic units started to process the material, crime scene tape encircled portions of the mall parking lot. Several mall stores temporarily closed while officials secured the area, and shoppers were evacuated during the initial response.

When shooting broke out, witnesses reported a chaotic scene as people fled for their lives. One customer who was close to the food court at the time remarked, "It was terrible – we simply heard a tremendous pop and everyone started running." 

Although information on a potential motive or connection between the perpetrator and victim has not yet been verified, police stressed that the shooting seemed to be an isolated event.

As the investigation proceeds into the evening, locals should anticipate an increased level of law enforcement presence at the Galleria Mall and the adjacent neighborhoods.
