Chula Vista Fatal Shooting: Eastlake High School Lockdown, Active Shooter, Police on the Scene
Following reports of an active shooter situation near Eastlake High School, the school and its surrounding campuses in Chula Vista were placed under lockdown Thursday morning.
Authorities say that after hearing reports of gunfire in or near Eastlake High School, highly armed Chula Vista Police Department officers arrived at the scene on Main Street. In order to protect the safety of the personnel and pupils, officers are presently on the site searching the area.
In an urgent message, the Chula Vista Elementary School District asks parents not to visit the school at this time since doing so may impede emergency response operations.
The district issued a statement saying, "Please stay away from the area until law enforcement protects the school." "We are collaborating closely with police to manage the situation, and student safety is our top priority."
While officials remove buildings and look into the origin of the reports, nearby schools have also imposed precautionary lockdowns.
Police have not yet disclosed details about a suspect or if gunfire occurred on campus, and no injuries have been reported as of yet.
There is a significant police presence, including tactical units and emergency vehicles, positioned surrounding Eastlake High School and down Main Street, according to video and images taken at the scene.
The public is being advised by Chula Vista Police to avoid the area and to follow official information via district and city channels that have been validated.
The tale is still evolving, and there will be updates.
