Dan Sikes Lafayette, IN Obituary, Reason for Passing: Committed Business Owner/ Canine Trainer, Dan Sikes
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Dan Sikes — a cherished son of Lafayette, Indiana; a dedicated veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard; a well-respected leader within the community; and a kind-hearted individual whose absence is deeply felt by many.
Dan led a life characterized by service, intention, and a steadfast spirit. Growing up in Lafayette, he had strong ties to the community he cherished. His service in the U.S. Army National Guard showcased his dedication to safeguarding others — a principle he upheld throughout all facets of his life. Whether it was in military service, managing personnel, training dogs, or campaigning for social change, Dan approached everything with humility and integrity.
Most recently, Dan embarked on a heartfelt campaign to represent District 41 in the Indiana House of Representatives. Although he did not achieve victory in the election, his campaign was never centered on personal acclaim. For Dan, it was fundamentally about serving the community. It was about being present. It was about listening attentively. It was about making ethical choices, regardless of whether anyone was observing.
Dan’s educational path — from attending Harrison High School to studying at Ivy Tech, Rasmussen University, and obtaining his MBA from Purdue University’s Daniels School of Business — demonstrated his conviction in continuous learning, personal development, and the importance of resilience.
In his career, Dan served as the Office Manager at Reliable Exterminators, where he led with compassion and effectiveness. He was also the proud owner and dog trainer at Pawsitive Vibes Only, merging his passion for animals with his abilities in understanding and patience. To people close to him, Dan’s approach to training dogs reflected how he interacted with individuals — with kindness, regard, and a soothing demeanor.
Dan shared a loving relationship with Sara Milligan, and their connection illustrated his ability for love and fidelity. As a companion, a friend, and a neighbor, Dan was someone who made others feel secure, acknowledged, and appreciated. His quiet strength provided reassurance to those around him. His passing is not merely a loss in the political or professional arenas — it is deeply personal.
