Durango Walmart Shooting: Durango Walmart Attempted Murder-Suicide; Colorado Police Are Looking Into It

Police are looking into a possible attempted murder-suicide at the Durango Walmart on Thursday afternoon, which left two people hospitalized, including the alleged shooter.

Shots were reported inside the business at approximately 4:30 p.m., which prompted the Durango Police Department, La Plata County Sheriff's Office, and Durango Fire Protection District to launch a massive response.

Both of the victims of the incident were taken to Mercy Hospital, according to Durango Police Department spokeswoman Amanda Garrison. The accused gunman has been recognized as one of the hospitalized individuals.

In a statement, Garrison said, "The issue is contained and there are no ongoing threats to the public." Investigators are still trying to figure out the specifics of the shooting, including how the suspect got hurt.

According to preliminary investigations, a couple's quarrel inside the Walmart was the cause of the violence. According to police, the argument got out of hand and resulted in injuries and shooting. An attempted murder-suicide is the subject of the investigation.

Emergency services and law enforcement responded quickly to the gunfire. Officers and paramedics continued to secure the area and treat patients about 5 p.m.

To enable first responders to operate without hindrance, authorities promptly advised the public to stay away from Walmart and the surrounding neighborhood.

According to a news release from the Durango Police Department, "We advise the public to avoid the area so first responders may work safely." "As soon as more verified information becomes available, it will be made public."

Police had not yet disclosed the names of those involved or information about their present health status as of Thursday night. While investigators processed the scene, the Walmart stayed closed.

Updates will be given as the inquiry progresses, officials said.
