Elijah Wilks Obituary, Cause of Death: Milwaukee Remembers Elijah Wilks, 26, Killed in Off-Duty Officer Incident

 The community of Milwaukee is grieving the heartbreaking death of Elijah Wilks, 26 years old, a warehouse employee and a lifelong resident, who was shot and killed on the morning of Thursday, October 9, 2025, near the intersection of 49th and Mill by an off-duty officer from the Milwaukee Police Department.


Officials reported that the occurrence took place around 7:30 a.m. while the officer was on his way to work after a fender bender led to a verbal argument that escalated into violence. According to law enforcement insiders, 


Wilks allegedly struck the officer with a gun, which led the officer to use his firearm, hitting Wilks several times. He was declared deceased at the location. The off-duty officer, who has been with the department for twelve years, experienced minor injuries during the incident and received care at a nearby hospital; he is currently on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.

Friends and family cherished Wilks as a loving father, a supportive friend, and a community mentor. Renowned for his infectious smile and caring nature, he illuminated the lives of those around him. “Elijah was the type of person who would give you his last dollar,” a friend recounted.
