Following a fatal crash in Lincoln County, South Dakota, Elijah Cooper and Tyree Wilson's obituary and cause of death were made public.
The names of the people involved in the deadly collision that happened late Saturday night, just north of Lennox, have been made public by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Tyree Wilson, 51, of Sioux Falls, was identified by authorities as the passenger and Elijah Cooper, 21, of Sioux Falls, as the driver. Around 11:12 p.m., Cooper was traveling east on 275th Street in a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he crossed the center line, went into a ditch, and the car rolled several times, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
Wilson passed away at the site after being thrown from the car during the collision. Cooper was taken to a hospital in Sioux Falls after suffering potentially fatal injuries, where he is still receiving treatment.
One fatality and one major injury were confirmed in the first report from Lincoln County officials; identities were withheld until families were informed. The reason of the collision, including potential contributing factors like speed or impairment, is still being looked into by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
This terrible event serves as a sobering reminder of how dangerous it is to lose control on country roads, especially after dark.
