Joey Williams, a beloved senior at Donegal High School, Class of 2026, was away tragically in a single-vehicle incident early Saturday morning. The Donegal School District and the neighboring Lancaster County towns are in deep sorrow at his passing.

First responders were sent to the 1800 block of Landis Road in East Donegal Township at around two in the morning on Sunday after receiving reports of a serious collision, according to Lancaster County emergency dispatch. When rescuers arrived, they found one car that had fallen off the road and was badly damaged. The driver, Joey Williams, was declared dead at the scene.

The Susquehanna Regional Police Department is still looking into what caused the collision. Preliminary reports suggest no other vehicles were involved, but authorities have not yet disclosed any additional information on the cause.

Joey Williams was more than just a student; he was a buddy, leader, and athlete who made everyone around him laugh and smile. Joey was a committed player for the basketball team at Donegal High School, and both coaches and teammates respected him for his unwavering work ethic, upbeat demeanor, and passion for the sport.

One colleague remarked, "Joey was not simply terrific - he was the heart of our squad." He kept everyone's spirits up and inspired them to work even harder. His humor, his smile, and his ability to make even difficult exercises enjoyable will be missed.

He was characterized by his teachers at Donegal High School as a respectable, diligent student who handled both academics and athletics with the same zeal and resolve. A loving son and grandson who cherished his family, Joey was well-known outside of school as a devoted friend who would go above and beyond to assist others.

The Williams family is well-known and adored in Marietta, Mount Joy, and Lancaster, and the devastating news has rocked these communities. His passing has prompted an amazing outpouring of affection and sympathies from neighbors, classmates, and locals. Joey was the grandson of Barb and Joe Williams.

A fundraiser has been set up by friends and supporters to assist the Williams family with funeral fees and other associated expenses in the aftermath of the tragedy. Additionally, the endeavor honors Joey's legacy by enabling the community to come together in support of the people he cared about the most.

A family friend said, "Joey had a knack of making people feel seen and respected." He was genuinely unique; he was friendly, humorous, and energetic. Everyone who knew him, not just his family, will be terribly saddened by his absence.

As the family completes preparations, details of the memorial service and celebration of life will be released in the days ahead. The Donegal School District has declared that educators and students will have access to grief counselors and support personnel to help them cope with this significant loss.

Joey's kindness, leadership, and unflinching optimism will live on in classrooms, on basketball courts, and across the community.

One thing is evident as the tributes keep coming in: Joey Williams' influence endures well beyond his lifetime. Everyone who had the good fortune to know him will carry his legacy of friendship, love, and laughter with them forever.
