Mason Triana Miami, FL Taken into Custody: 27-Year-Old Mason Triana Recognized as Individual Who Fired Upon Two Officers of Miami Police
The individual implicated in the violent standoff on Thursday morning, which resulted in injuries to two Miami police officers, has been named as 27-year-old Mason Triana. The alarming event took place in the Allapattah area and concluded with Triana being found deceased within a home.
Miami Police Chief Manny Morales stated that the event commenced at approximately 7:00 a.m. on October 9, 2025, when law enforcement responded to notifications regarding an abandoned car located near NW 15th Avenue and NW 26th Street. While officers evaluated the situation, a ShotSpotter alert indicated gunfire in the vicinity. Shortly thereafter, law enforcement officials came across a second vehicle that had been extensively damaged by bullets.
Without any prior indication, Triana began shooting, hitting a male sergeant in the knee and injuring a female officer in her ankle. Both officers were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment, where they are reported to be stable and on the road to recovery. Chief Morales remarked, “Their exhibition of immense courage and professionalism during the ordeal was remarkable.”
Following the shooting, Triana barricaded himself within a nearby house, leading to a significant SWAT deployment. Negotiations persisted for several hours before officers ultimately found him dead inside the home. Officials have not yet determined if Triana’s demise was due to self-harm or the result of crossfire.
Another person was taken into custody for questioning as the investigation progresses. Chief Morales highlighted that the swift and coordinated efforts of the police helped avert a greater catastrophe.
